Investigating Motivation and Attitudinal Loyalty †Free Samples

Question: Discuss about the Investigating Motivation and Attitudinal Loyalty. Answer: Introduction Professional athletes are sport people who are enrolled in various athletic teams to express their skills, natural talents and competitive drive for performance payment. Professional athletes are involves in vigorous training, excise and personal fitness. Professional athletes may be from various sports such as football, baseball, hockey, basketball or rugby. Professional athletics though is on the continuous rise has met opposition from those who views the professionalism as earning living contrary to expression of talents and enjoyment. Some of the professional athletes are Greg Ingilis and Tim Cahill both from Australia. Professional athletes agents on the other hand are legal representatives of professional athletes. The main role of athlete agents is to lead in contract negotiation with sponsors and branding endorsement. Brand ambassadors are sport people hired by companies to advance brand awareness (Erdogan Drollinger (2008, pp.573 - 582). The following report presents analys is of athletes as brand ambassadors. Greg Ingilis is Australian professional rugby player with many awards and position in his career. Greg Ingilis currently play for south Sydney Rabitton and previously Australian International representative for Melbourne Storm. Greg Ingilis has won two grand finals, medals and other award making Greg Ingilis one of the competitive brand ambassadors from Australia. Greg Ingiliss professional playing career began sometimes back in 2005 where Greg Ingilis scored 12 tries while playing for Brisbanes North Devils. Later in 2006 Greg Ingilis begin his career at State of Origin with Maroon team. Greg Ingilis is under the manger Allan Gainey as his agent that sign deals with sponsors (Fizel, McNeil Smaby 2008, pp.247-56). Greg Ingilis is brand ambassador for POWERADE ION4 hydration drinks that is product of Coca Cola Company. In promoting the drinks Greg Ingilis advocate that athletes lose up to 3liters of body fluid every one hour of excise. In addition, professional athletes can improve their performance through using hydration drinks thus managing stress for optimum training. Through different online sites Greg Ingilis endorses the POWERADE ION4 drinks as agent of increasing athlete performance. This implies that through many advertisements of POWERADE ION4 drinks Greg Ingilis has been featured as celebrity branding. Initially, Greg Ingilis had been know for promoting his own clothing brands yet the controversy stated when some of his clothing resemble another companys brands. Currently Greg Ingilis signed deal with coca cola Company for endorsement of its brand POWERADE ION4 hydration drink (Shuart 2007, pp 126-140). Tim Cahill legally named Timothy Filiga is Australian professional footballer currently playing for Melbourne city. Tim Cahill has been named all-time goal scorer for Australian national team owing to his aggressive and powerful approach during sports. In addition, Tim Cahill is one of the most famous professional footballers in Asian Football Confederation. Tim Cahill started his club career at Millwall. Later Tim Cahill move to Everton club where he became the Evertons top goal scorer in his first season. Since playing for Everton, Tim Cahill have played for many teams or clubs (Goldman Papson 2000). Currently Tim Cahill is under the management of his agent Ante Alilovic. Tim Cahill is an athlete who considers his interest first than the interest of sponsors. Tim Cahill criticise being under control of sponsor as having sponsors owning his celebrity image through brand endorsement. Tim Cahill endorsed menswear brand under the name Cahill+menswear produced by Shoreditch International Company. The company feature Tim Cahill in different range of products such as jackets, t-shirt, and shorts. The contract is under partnership between Tim Cahill and Shoreditch International Company. In addition, Tim Cahill successfully launch Australian mens grooming brand called Vitaman in China. Tim Cahill and Greg Ingilis are both celebrity professional athletes from Australia who feature in different brand adverts. According to Braunstein and Zhang (2005, pp 242-268), the two professional athletes have attracted many sponsors with the views to help in brand endorsement for various products in Australia and abroad. Greg Ingilis has been featured in coca cola company advert on its popular brand POWERADE ION4 hydration drink as compared to Tim Cahill who partner with Shoreditch International Company to endorse Cahill+menswear suits. The comparison is quite clear as initially did not endorse any brand except own fashion brand. Tim Cahill on the other hand according to Carlson Donovan (2008, pp.154-62), rejected formal contract with one company and instead partner with Shoreditch International Company to advance its brands (Kim, Morris Swait 2008, pp 99-117). Agents ability to maximize the objectives of all stakeholders Athlete agents normally communicate and keep in touch with various stakeholders. Some of the most common stakeholders that take part athletic career management are sponsors, team, team mangers, government agencies and club supporters (Harris 2008, p16). Firstly, sponsors contract athletes through their agents for signing of deals. Sponsors are mostly companies that involve athletes in endorsement of their products or brands and in turn sponsor athletes. Secondly, athletes are employed in various teams which form part of stakeholders and also sign deal with athletes. Thirdly, team mangers are important stakeholders that keep in touch with athletes agents. Team mangers supervise the activities of clubs, individuals or teams. Fourthly, government agencies that regulate athletes are Australian Sport Commission, Australian Olympic Committee, Confederation of Australian Sport and Australian Athletic Alliance. These government agencies monitor the terms of contract between athletes and thei r sponsors according to laws that govern sport in Australia (Jowdy Mcdonald 2002, pp 186-189). The uniqueness of sport industry places the sport agents at the central position in the communication link with team owners or sponsors. Athlete agents therefore play an important role in ensuring that the objectives of all stakeholders are maximised. To maximise objectives of all stakeholders, athletes agents provides contract law guidance, handle public relation matters and communicate with stakeholders (Keller 2003, pp.595-600). The complexity of professional athletes career requires agents that are familiar with contract laws. Athletes agents provide legal guidance to their clients and this makes most of agents to be lawyers who are conversant with contract laws. For instance, for Tim Cahill to sing the partnership deal with Shoreditch International Company his agent has understood the nature of partnership and the legal requirement. To maximise objectives of stakeholders such as Australian sport commission, Tim Cahill agents has to understand the requirements of the Australia constitution regarding brand promotion and athletes endorsement. Moreover, agents acts as negotiators or brokers for deals that are signed outside the country with another company or team that require understanding of foreign laws (Ueltschy Laroche 2004, pp.91-102). The second way that agents maximise objectives of stakeholders is through handle public relation matters. Most of the athletes public relation matters are dealt with through athletes agent. This implies that agents being the representative and mostly mangers represent athletes in public functions or matters that pertain to public interest. The public relation duty of athlete agents makes agents to work for several hours to meet stakeholders requirements. For instance, confrontation of Greg Ingilis due to personal fashion endorsement requires his agent Allan Gainey to explains the relationship between Greg Ingilis and the Jordan based company that manufacture the same clothes. This also ushered in another contract with Coca Cola Company to promote companys hydration drink brand (Kaynak, Salman Tatoglu 2008, pp 336-357). Thirdly, athletes communicate with stakeholder such as sponsors, sport regulators and teams. Agents are legally allowed to communicate with team managers, or other stakeholders on behalf of their clients. Objectives of stakeholders such as sponsors are to maximize their terms of contract with athlete. For instance, brand endorsement requires that athletes promote certain brand according to the agreement with the company. To evaluate the level of endorsement agents keeps in touch with company and the athlete to ensure objects are met. Furthermore, agents communicate with sport regulators on the legal issues that touch their clients. Therefore, agents play an important role in ensuring that objectives of stakeholders are met according the requirement of laws and contract (Till 2001, pp 35-42). Effectiveness of the athlete and their major endorsement contract Athletes can endorse varieties of brand whether related to sport or completely different product from sport. The effectiveness of athletes endorsement for brand also differs from one brand or athlete to another. Some of the factors that contribute to the effectiveness endorsement are provision of celebrity image, attractiveness, credibility of the product and endorser characteristics attached to the brand. According to Augustine-Schlossinger (2003, p.43), the effectiveness of athletes endorsement lies on the credibility of the source athlete. Credibility model of effectiveness of the endorsement explains that credibility of message and expertise of the endorser has a lot to offers in endorsement. For endorsement to be effective the attributed message need to trustworthy thus appealing to customers that buys the product that has been endorsed. For instance, Greg Ingilis endorsement of his own fashion attracted the attention of customers labelling him as most wanted man. The primary cause of negative reaction from public was due to lack of credibility of clothes that the athlete endorsed. In addition, many customers considered that the products were from a totally different company though Greg Ingilis did not recognise the original manufacturer of the fashion (Summers Johnson 2008, pp 176-182). Attractiveness of the endorsement that link celebrity athlete and the similarity with endorsement plays an important role in effectiveness of endorsement. Physical attractiveness of the endorser is critical when analysing the effectiveness of endorsement. This attractiveness is based on the beauty though customers perceive physical attractiveness differently. Matchup model for brands give the guidelines that is used to matchup brand and celebrity athlete. Therefore congruency or fit between athlete and product endorsed many consultants attribute to the success of brand endorsement. Tim Cahill signed partnership with Shoreditch International Company to endorse menswear in a very attractive look. Some of the advertisements that feature Tim Cahill show features that are indistinguishable between brand and Tim Cahill. Thus the Tim Cahill endorsement can be termed by many consultants as successful (Richard 2007, pp 1). The final feature that explains the effectiveness of endorsement is endorser characteristics attached to the brand. Celebrity characteristics that an athlete poses in combination with credibility and attractiveness provides an interaction with product endorsed. Expertise and attractiveness of celebrity endorser can form inseparable characteristic making endorsement effective. This implies that athletes concentrate on its endorsing brands that are related to their area of expertise. Customers can link brand and celebrity athletes through congruency of their characteristics. Cultural attractiveness as a characteristic of celebrity endorsement can attract customers curiosity to learn the expertise of the athlete making it effective (Rein, Kotler Shields 2006, pp 30-31). The most effectiveness brand and endorsement The most effective endorsement is Greg Ingilis endorsement of POWERADE ION4 hydration drink. The endorsement of POWERADE ION4 hydration drink provides the link between product and the celebrity athlete (Ross, James Vargas 2006, pp 260-279). Firstly, POWERADE ION4 hydration drink is important product in athletes as it increases performance of athlete during excise thus customers can get attracted. Secondly, POWERADE ION4 hydration drink is manufactured by Coca Cola Company making its information credible and of good reputation. The attractiveness in POWERADE ION4 hydration drinks advertisement owing to the physical fitness of Greg Ingilis. Furthermore, the attractiveness of the advert is based on the pictures drown from Greg Ingilis doing excise in the field. Tim Cahill contract with Shoreditch International Company though resulted in production of menswear; the area of expertise differs making the endorsement not that much appealing to customer as compared Gregs endorsement. In Tim Cahill, the depiction of celebrity image is brought about with Tim Cahill though brand remains totally different from athlete. Moreover, endorsement is on partnership as oppose to Gregs endorsement that is a different contract (Low Lamb 2000, pp 350-368). There are number of issues that arises in brand endorsement or sponsorship for professional athletes Some of the issues are include conflict of interest, the length of endorsement term, credibility of athlete, number of sponsors and athletes retirement. Conflict of interest differs between sponsors and athletes they sponsor. The difference in interest has impact on the brand or terms of contract. For instance, conflict arose when many sponsors wanted to sign contract with Greg Ingilis a deal that was denied by the.... Greg Ingilis agents wanted high earning as compared the expected earning that is set by the governmental regulatory agency. AFL also protects sponsors from exploitation by agents negotiating deals on behalf of their clients. The exploitation arises when athlete needs high earning from brand endorsement as compared to return on the endorsement (Malhotra Peterson 2006). Moreover, Tim Cahill highlighted his interest as the core for contract not sponsors interest. This made Tim Cahill to reject normal contract for brand endorsement for fear of being owned or company owning his celebrity image. Credibility of the athlete also determines the effectiveness of the contract between sponsor and athlete. The trustworthiness of both sponsor and athlete determines the objective achievement for both parties involved. The credibility also arises on the brand that is under endorsement as credibility play role in making customers like a product subsequently impacting the contract between sponsor and athlete. The communication link between athlete and sponsor also play role as sponsor trust those athletes that are in continuous contact with them. Moreover, brand value is lifted through continuous contact between athlete and sponsoring company. This has been contradicted by those who view it as being owned by sponsor. Some athletes such as Tim Cahill therefore shift to partnership instead of sponsors (Neale Funk 2006, pp 307-317). Number of sponsors that athletes can have differs depending on the contract terms. Some companies such as Nike have numerous numbers of athletes that they sponsor. Sponsorships terms determine the number of sponsors that one athlete can have at ago. In addition, some products require one athlete at one time to feature in their products. This is quite different with the case of sponsors who can sponsor as many athletes as possible. Within specific time frame, an athlete can contract single sponsor hence feature in its products without doubling sponsors. Brand owners on the other hand can stipulate a number of sponsorship with many athletes under different contract (Kim, Morris Swait 2008, pp 99-117). Conclusion In conclusion, athletic management provides structure and strategies that are used to manage professional athletes. Professional athletes are sport people who are employed in sport teams or clubs. Professional athletes are managed by their legal agents who negotiate contract deals with sponsors and other stakeholders. Athletes are used in brand endorsement for advertising brands for companies that acts as their sponsors. Two examples of professional athletes are Tim Cahill and Greg Ingilis who have taken part in brand endorsement of different products, agents and different companies. Factors such as attractiveness, credibility and characteristics of endorsement determine the effectiveness of celebrity athlete brand endorsement. Finally, athletes agents relationship with stakeholders can help maximise the achievement of stakeholders objectives. Kurt Cobains Death free essay sample

Kurt Cobain: Murder or Suicide? On April 8, 1994 Kurt D. Cobain’s body was discovered in his home in Seattle, Washington. Cobain was the front-man for Nirvana, a 90’s grunge band hailed as the â€Å"flagship band† of Generation X, who produced well-known hits such as â€Å"Smells Like Teen Spirit† and â€Å"Heart-Shaped Box. † His death shocked the nation, leading to many copy-cat suicides and leaving many of the youth feeling hopeless and abandoned. Although everyone knew he was a suicidal drug addict, no one believed that he killed himself. People often theorized that Courtney Love was his murderer, not that she held the gun to his head, but that she hired someone to kill him. So the question still stands 17 years later: Did he commit suicide or not? Theory #1 Murder: Love DeWitt Many people began to theorize that Courtney Love, Cobain’s wife and mother of their daughter Frances Bean, and Michael DeWitt, a male nanny that resided in the Cobain residence, had something to do with his death. We will write a custom essay sample on Kurt Cobains Death or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page People began to say that Love and DeWitt conspired to kill Kurt because the two were in love with each other, and Courtney knew that Kurt would not let her go that easily. DeWitt and Love were never accused of having an affair. The only thing that led to this theory was a note that DeWitt had written Kurt about learning to take care of his responsibilities, Frances and Courtney, and to clean up his act. Theory #2 Murder: Love Pays Someone to Kill Cobain After Kurt’s death a gentleman who calls himself El Duce, the lead singer of an LA band called â€Å"the Mentors,† had told reporters that Courtney Love had offered him $50,000 dollars to kill Kurt Cobain. Even though he had said he was not able to carry out her offer because his band was touring, he brought it to the public’s attention that Love would have very well paid some hit-man to kill her husband. Another reason for this is that Kurt and Courtney were on the brink of divorce and he wanted her name pulled out of the will, so before he could do so, she wanted him dead. First off why would Love ask someone to carry out a deed such as this the first time meeting them and in public? Also how would her name being pulled out of the will devastate her since her band, Hole which she was the lead singer and guitar player of, was just as successful as his, which meant making the same amount of money as he did? Theory #3 Suicide: Cobain Reached the Peak of Fame I believe that the ruling of death was completely right: Kurt Cobain had committed suicide. There is substantial evidence that his death was self-inflicted. Not only was he released from detox about seven days before his death, but he also had a friend buy him a shot gun days before that. Cobain was a heroin addict, clinically depressed and also bipolar. He often told people, namely his band mates, how he wanted to die. Evidence #1: Heroin Blood Levels On April 14, 1994 the Seattle Post-Intelligencer released the official toxicology report that concluded that Cobain’s blood levels contained 1. 52 milligrams of heroin per litre of blood. Many people on the bandwagon of his murder will believe Grant, an investigator and the main person trying to prove Cobain was murdered, when he claims that anyone with that amount of Heroin in their system could not keep injecting themselves let alone pick up a gun and fire it. But sadly for those who has decided to believe Grant it is well known among doctors and addicts alike that if you have done heroin for many years, at very high doses which often led to overdoses, as Cobain experiences often, that you will develop a high tolerance which means it will take higher amounts to get you high and an even higher amount to kill you. Evidence #2: The Suicide Note It is almost always a given that when there is a note in the vicinity of a dead body it was most likely a suicide. The note that was only a few feet from the dead body of Kurt Cobain was written to explain his intent to leave not only Courtney, as they were planning on a divorce which is a big reason on why people believe she had something to do with it, but Seattle and the music business as well. At the bottom of the note there are a few lines that often make people question if those were also written my Kurt. Those last lines are said to be the only ones that infer suicide, even though to me the way he wrote the rest implies it as well, are believed to be written either by Courtney or the nanny. Anyone who has done drugs knows that when you shoot up that your functions slowly shut down, which is one explanation for the difference in hand writing, or even the fact that he was suicidal, maybe he was crying which would blur his vision and make it hard to write correctly. Evidence #3: The Gun Cobain had used a Remington Model 11, 20 Gauge Shotgun to shoot himself. First off with the conspiracy theories, people say he used just a regular hunting rifle (Remington Model 700), which is not true. Also many people say that he shot himself in the left temple, which makes absolutely no sense because first off he was right handed so it would be really awkward for him to reach around with a bulky shotgun to shoot himself on the left side. Also people should learn to not believe everything they see because the picture of his death that was published was a fake, and also the reason many people believe the temple theory. No blood was ever found on the right side of his head, which means that the bullet did not enter the left side nor exit the right. The medical examiner’s report says that he held the gun into his mouth and fired the shot. There is ample evidence that it was in his mouth because of the burns and residue left there. Also many people feel that because there are no fingerprints on the trigger that he did not shoot himself, they believe the weapon was wiped clean. Gun experts have claimed that fingerprints can be extinguished when the gun recoils after being shot. Conclusion No matter what anyone says, I know that Kurt Cobain committed suicide, whether the fatal blow was due to the heroin or the bullet, he killed himself. Not only was he suicidal, depressed, and bipolar, he had reached the peak of fame. And in his book Journals he writes a section where he talks about when he hits the peak of fame he was going to kill himself, and this was written before Nirvana ever had gotten a gig. Another odd occurrence is that he died when he was 27 years old, along with other idols such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. His sister told fans in the book Heavier Than Heaven written by Charles R Cross in 2001 that when Kurt was young he often talked about how he wanted to join the Forever 27 Club. There is ample evidence that he had killed himself and to support my view just look at his death certificate. For those whom think he was murdered, there is not one single piece of evidence that shows that anyone else injected the heroin into his system or shot him in the mouth. Yes Kurt Cobain was an American idol, yes his death has drastically affected the music world and yes he was on the top of the world but no one took that away from him other than himself. The only reason these theories have come about is because of a few reasons: it is hard to come to terms that someone so influential could kill themselves, it is hard to believe that his ‘psychotic’ wife had nothing to do with his death and that those people especially Grant just want to make money from the books and movies they keep making about it.

Fast Facts: Pompey the Great Known For: Pompey was a Roman military commander and statesman who was part of the First Triumvirate with Marcus Licinius Crassus and Julius Caesar. Also Known As: Pompey, Gnaeus Pompeius MagnusBorn: September 29, 106 BCE in Picenum, Roman RepublicDied: September 28, 48 BCE in Pelusium, EgyptSpouse(s): Antistia  (m. 86-82 BCE), Aemilia Scaura  (m. 82-79 BCE), Mucia Tertia  (m. 79-61 BCE), Julia  (m. 59-54 BCE), Cornelia Metella  (m. 52-48 BCE)Children: Gnaeus Pompeius, Pompeia Magna, Sextus Pompeius Early Life Unlike Caesar, whose Roman heritage was long and illustrious, Pompey came from a non-Latin family in Picenum (in northern Italy), with money. His father,  Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo, was a member of the Roman Senate. At 23, following in his fathers footsteps, Pompey entered the political scene by raising troops to help Roman general Sulla liberate Rome from the Marians. Marius and Sulla had been at odds ever since Marius took credit for a victory in Africa that his subordinate Sulla had engineered. Their struggles led to many Roman deaths and unthinkable violations of Roman law, such as bringing an army into the city itself. Pompey was a Sullan and a supporter of the conservative Optimates. A novus homo, or new man, Marius was Julius Caesars uncle and a supporter of the populist group known as the Populares. Pompey fought Marius men in Sicily and Africa. For his bravery in battle, he was given the title Pompey the Great (Pompeius Magnus). Sertorian War and Third Mithridatic War Civil war continued in Rome when Quintus Sertorius, one of the Populares, launched an attack against the Sullans in the Western Roman Empire. Pompey was sent to assist the Sullans  in the fighting, which lasted from 80 BCE to 72 BCE. Pompey was a skilled strategist; he used his forces to draw out the enemy and attack them when they least suspected it. In 71 BCE, he helped Roman leaders suppress the slave uprising led by Spartacus, and he later played a role in the defeat of the pirate menace. When he invaded the country of Pontus, in Asia Minor, in 66 BCE, Mithridates, who had long been a thorn in Romes side, fled to the Crimea where he arranged for his own death. This meant the Mithridatic wars were finally over; Pompey could take credit for another victory. On behalf of Rome, Pompey also took control of Syria in 64 BCE and captured Jerusalem. When he returned to Rome in 61 BCE, he held a triumphal celebration. The First Triumvirate Along with Marcus Licinius Crassus and Julius Caesar, Pompey formed what is known as the First Triumvirate, which became the dominating force in Roman politics. Together, these three rulers were able to seize power from some of the Optimates and resist the power of the Roman nobles in the Senate. Like Pompey, Caesar was a skilled and highly respected military leader; Crassus was the wealthiest man in the Roman Empire. The alliances between the three men, however, were personal, tenuous, and short-lived. Crassus was not happy that Pompey had taken credit for overcoming the Spartans, but with Caesar mediating, he agreed to the arrangement for political ends. When Pompeys wife Julia (Caesars daughter) died, one of the main links broke. Crassus, a less capable military leader than the other two, was killed in military action in Parthia. Civil War After the dissolution of the First Triumvirate, tensions began to escalate between Pompey and Caesar. Some Roman leaders, including those who had previously resisted the authority of Pompey and Caesar, decided to back Pompey in an election for consul, fearing that the failure to do so would create a power vacuum in Rome. Pompey then married Cornelia, the daughter of the Roman consul Metellus Scipio. For a time, Pompey controlled much of the Roman Empire while Caesar continued his campaigns abroad. In 51 BCE, Pompey made moves to relieve Caesar of his command. He promised to give up his own armies as well; however, some scholars claim that this was merely a ploy to hurt public opinion of Caesar, who no one expected would surrender his forces. Negotiations continued unsuccessfully for some time, with neither commander willing to make military concessions, and eventually the conflict turned into outright war. The Great Roman Civil War- also known as Caesars Civil War- lasted four years, from 49 to 45 BCE. It came to an end with Caesars decisive victory at the Battle of Munda. Death Pompey and Caesar first faced each other as enemy commanders after Caesar, defying orders from Rome, crossed the Rubicon. Caesar was the victor of the battle at Pharsalus in Greece, where he was outnumbered by Pompeys forces. After the defeat, Pompey fled to Egypt, where he was killed and his head cut off so that it could be sent to Caesar. Legacy Even though he turned against Caesar, Pompey was widely admired by his countrymen for his role in the conquest of various territories. He was especially admired by the nobles, and statues of him were placed in Rome as a tribute to his military and political accomplishments. His image was printed on silver coins in 40 BCE. Pompey has been depicted in a number of films and television series, including Julius Caesar, Rome, Ancient Rome: The Rise and Fall of an Empire, and Spartacus: War of the Damned. Write a critical review of Plutarch Life of Crassus Essay

Write a critical review of Plutarch Life of Crassus - Essay Example s necessary to take into account inappropriate behavior of the great ancient leaders and it would be better to focus on their strengths and not on their vices. There is no need to focus on the biography of Crassus if not to consider moral and ethical implications provided by Plutarch in this biography. There is a lot of incongruence and the biography of Crassus is rather imbalanced. The way Plutarch describes Crassus head, which is served to the Parthian king is a way of ambitious depiction of the negative side of glory. There are two main drawbacks, which Crassus has: the first one is his ambition and the second one is avarice. Plutarch is a magnificent bibliographer. The lives of ancient Greeks are highly informative and the personalities, who were described by Plutarch, are extraordinary and leading people of the ancient times. The main feature of bibliographical discussions by Plutarch is the reflection of his personal opinion. The Life of Crassus is evidently considered from a negative perspective. On the example of Crassus Plutarch intends to teach a moral lesson to his readers. The main negative feature of Crassus was his avarice. Moreover, this vice was dominant over all other vices, because the other vices could be crossed by the vice of avarice (Plutarch, The Life of Crassus). This claim was positioned by Plutarch in the beginning of biography of Crassus. Therefore, the readers consider Crassus from a negative perspective. Other virtues of Crassus are opposed to the main vice of the main character. Plutarch underlines the main vice of Crassus in an intensive manner (Zadorojniy, 1997). Otherwise, the readers would not be so much concerned about avarice as the main vice of Crassus. In such a way, Plutarch positions greed as the main destructive feature of Crassus. Still, Crassus is positioned as a kind man and we cannot claim that this character is bad to the bones. He often helped people in time and thus people relied on him greatly. Moreover,

Employment Law and Practice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Employment Law and Practice - Essay Example In unfair dismissal claims costs are rarely recoverable. By contrast,  it is reverse a successful employer or employee may recover legal costs in a wrongful dismissal claim in the normal civil courts. 2 The method of how compensation is to be calculated is also different. In wrongful dismissal claims, the measure of damages is calculated upon comparing the employee in such a position they would have been in had they received payment for the proper notice to which they were eligible under their contract. In unfair dismissal claims, the calculation is based on the basic award based on a mathematical formula, and also includes a compensatory award, which will usually encompass loss extending beyond the end of the notice period. A dismissal can be both wrongful and unfair at the same time, so compensation paid by the employer for wrongful dismissal will usually be set off against the compensatory award granted of an unfair dismissal award. 3 Another important difference is that in wrongful dismissal cases  the employer can rely on facts, which he finds out or gets; intimation after the employee has been dismissed (see Boston Deep Sea Fishing v Ansell [1888] 4. In unfair dismissal cases, what is the important factor to be taken into account is that the employer knew at the time the employee was dismissed. The difference between the concepts of unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal can be illustrated by example where an employer has dismissed an employee who has committed a breach of contract, example can be, an act of gross misconduct which occurs in respect to the heart for the contract. In a wrongful dismissal claim, the employee will not be entitled to pay in respect or lieu of notice or notice pay at all, here as the employee has broken the contract and cannot therefore rely on it to claim notice pay. With an unfair dismissal claim, the employer

Gear and Equipment Responsibility Essay Example for Free

Gear and Equipment Responsibility Essay My gear and equipment is my own personal responsibility. My gear was issued to me with the intent of me to keep track of my gear and to make sure my gear is ready and accessible when need be. It is my own personal responsibility to make sure that at all times my gear is stored or secured in a safe place to make sure that nothing is either damaged, lost or stolen. It is my own personal responsibility to ensure that if anything were to happen to my gear that it should be reported immediately, such as damaged or malfunctioning gear or lost gear. If my gear is broken or malfunctioning it is my own personal responsibility to see to it that if I cannot personally fix my gear that through the chain of command someone is notified until a solution to the problem is found and the problem itself is fixed. If my gear is to ever be lost or stolen it is again my own personal responsibility to go through the chain of command notifying those appointed over me of my lost or stolen and gear. To lose my gear or have it stolen is something that should never happen though. Every Marine is responsible for his or her own gear and irresponsibly losing the gear that is issued to each individual Marine shows a lack of responsibility. If a Marines gear is stolen it shows poor judgment on the Marine that believed he or she could leave his or her gear laying out and lack of integrity on the part of the Marine that stole the other Marines gear. A Marine should show better judgment in where he or she stows his or her gear. A Marine is issued his or her own individual gear with the intent of it being his or her own personal gear but to leave his or her own gear lying about, wherever he or she so pleases is not in any way, shape or form showing good judgment but lack of responsibility issued to that Marine. Every Marine is responsible for his or her own personal gear and is a reflection of what to possibly expect from the irresponsible Marine. A Marine should always be aware of his or her own personal gear at all times and make sure that his or her own personal gear is properly stowed or secured in secure location to prevent such instances of theft or misplacing his or her own gear. Alternatively, each and every Marine should know that if he or she is not able to stow his or her gear in a safe or secure location than to entrust another Marine to watch over his or her gear until a place to secure his or her own gear is found to ensure that the Marines gear is safe from theft and no excuse for misplacing his or her own gear would be an acceptable answer when questioned as to how the Marines gear went missing or was stolen.
